Waiter

Role

The Waiter is responsible for delivering exceptional food and beverage service while creating a warm, welcoming, and memorable dining experience for every guest. The role ensures accurate order taking, efficient service, product knowledge, and adherence to the restaurant's service standards. The Waiter works collaboratively with the kitchen, bar, and front-of-house team to provide seamless service while maintaining cleanliness, professionalism, and attention to detail.

Reporting to: Head Waiter / Floor Manager

Key Responsibilities

Guest Experience

  • Welcome guests courteously and professionally, ensuring they feel valued and comfortable throughout their dining experience.
  • Present menus, explain menu items, daily specials, ingredients, and beverage options with confidence.
  • Make food and beverage recommendations based on guest preferences and dietary requirements.
  • Anticipate guest needs and provide attentive, personalized service at every stage of the dining experience.
  • Handle guest requests, concerns, and complaints professionally, escalating matters to the Head Waiter or Floor Manager when appropriate.
  • Ensure guest satisfaction by regularly checking tables and responding promptly to guest needs.

Order Taking & Service

  • Accurately take food and beverage orders using the POS system.
  • Ensure all orders are communicated correctly to the kitchen and bar.
  • Serve food and beverages according to the restaurant's presentation and service standards.
  • Verify that orders are complete, accurate, and served at the correct temperature.
  • Monitor tables throughout the meal, replenishing beverages and clearing used items efficiently.
  • Present bills accurately and process guest payments according to company procedures.

Restaurant Operations

  • Prepare the assigned service station before each shift, ensuring all mise en place is complete.
  • Set up and maintain tables according to restaurant standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of dining areas, service stations, and equipment throughout the shift.
  • Assist with opening, closing, and end-of-shift cleaning duties.
  • Ensure all operating equipment is handled with care and reported if damaged.

Sales & Upselling

  • Promote menu specials, signature dishes, desserts, premium beverages, and seasonal promotions.
  • Practice effective upselling techniques while ensuring recommendations enhance the guest experience.
  • Maintain strong product knowledge to confidently answer guest questions.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with the kitchen, bar, hosts, runners, and fellow service team members to ensure smooth restaurant operations.
  • Support colleagues during busy service periods to maintain efficient workflow.
  • Participate actively in daily briefings, menu tastings, and operational meetings.
  • Assist in training and supporting new team members when required.

Compliance & Hygiene

  • Follow all food safety, hygiene, HACCP, and health & safety procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of personal hygiene, grooming, and professional appearance.
  • Ensure safe handling of food, beverages, crockery, and equipment.
  • Comply with company policies, service standards, and operational procedures at all times.

Self-Learning & Development

  • Attend all required training sessions and continuously improve service knowledge and skills.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the restaurant's menu, ingredients, allergens, beverages, and service standards.
  • Remain committed to personal development and achieving agreed performance objectives.
  • Accept feedback positively and apply learning to improve performance.

Pre-requisites

  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in Food & Beverage service, preferably in a premium casual dining or fine dining restaurant.
  • Good knowledge of food and beverage service procedures.
  • Excellent communication and guest interaction skills.
  • Basic knowledge of POS systems.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good understanding of food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and strong attention to detail.
