Disability Inclusion Group The Disability Inclusion Group (DIG) has been set up as part of our on-going aim to build a high performing, inclusive culture where everyone is comfortable to be themselves, has equal opportunity for career progression and where people with disabilities find it easy to deal with us. Our mission is to help Zurich in the UK be recognised as an inclusive organisation; to remove any barriers that hinder this; and to promote equal opportunities for all so that employees, customers and other stakeholders, irrespective of ability, find Zurich to be a caring and understanding employer and insurer.


We have our own charity, the Zurich Community Trust (ZCT). From providing financial support with contributions to our communities of over £3m a year, to providing practical help and guidance, we make a huge difference to people’s lives and our communities alongside the day job. Over 40% of our employees get involved in charitable activity. Zurich has introduced agile working (which we call 'FlexWork') in order to maximise productivity, wellbeing and engagement. Employees are empowered to work where, when and how they choose with maximum flexibility and minimum constraints in order to meet business needs. It allows individuals to work in a way that helps them balance the changing needs of their lives as well as those of their various stakeholders, including customers and colleagues. FlexWork might involve flexing locations, working hours or style. FlexWork also underpins our diversity and inclusion strategy as it enables some of our colleagues to work who wouldn't otherwise be able to, due to disability or caring responsibilities.

Learning and Development From February 2015 new joiners will be required to attend a 2-day ‘Welcome to Zurich’ workshop. With over 800 new joiners in 2014, it is important that Zurich provides a consistent, informative and professional joining experience that meets regulatory requirements. A required online corporate induction programme is also available to support more senior appointees. In addition, a global new joiner programme, introduced in 2013 and embedded throughout 2014, is used across the UK business areas to cement the vital relationship between the managers and team members. Our Managing Essentials Programme aims to embed best practice in recruitment, diversity, inclusive leadership, managing conflict, performance management and coaching skills. It is required training for all newly appointed managers and has been externally accredited by the Chartered Institute of Insurance. Our group-wide Performance Management System (GPMS) ensures a consistent approach to managing employees’ performance and development. GPMS supports the alignment of individual and business objectives, enabling performance ratings to be comparable across the global organisation. All employees are required to have a Zurich Commitment-related objective. The objective sets out how we will actively care for our stakeholders (customers, people, shareholders and the communities in which we live and work) and how we demonstrate our core values – Zurich Basics – on everything we do. The objective has a minimum weight of 30% for the Zurich leadership team and 20% for all other employees. All employees are encouraged to own their individual development and have an Individual Development Plan (IDP).
