Good benefits, poor-okay pay, ridiculous cliques.

Before I started working there it seemed like a cool place to work. Took almost a month to get hired cause management called back once saying they’d set up interview. Not long into the job I could already see drama. I had an employee joke with me saying “ we tricked you, huh. Making you thinking everyone is cool and nice haha”. I heard it can vary store to store but the cliques were unbelievable. If you did not fit the group leaders expectations then they quickly singled you out. There were some good people but mostly the older ones meaning above 40 years old. Females would take offense to anything and everything an management always took there side. Something management always said is “does not matter what you said or did, it is how it is perceived”. You get paid enough to keep you there for the work. People always getting hurt leaving early for “personal”reasons so work fell on everyone else. Over all okay to place to work and the company takes good care of you. Just the employees and management aren’t great.

Pros

Good health insurance.

Cons

Employees and management, pay varies by state.

Great people and good pay for the work

Liked the area, the people and all that. Downtown location does have to deal with the homeless though, and they will destroy stuff and bother people. Very relaxed.

Productive Workplace

Trader Joes was a good company to work for. The job is warehouse environment fast paced. while at the job I learned how what comes in on a manifest could be different from what arrives in a truck. These differences could cost the company money if not caught and adjusted. The hardest part of the job were last minute adjustments. the most enjoyable was daily accomplishments of accurate counts on various products.

Not great if you’re trans but otherwise fine

Management was not supportive of trans crew members, and treated misgendering by crew and customers as an issue for crew to deal with personally. They treated the mental and physical health of crew members as secondary to customer satisfaction. Aside from this, the raise structure was decent and the job itself was pretty standard retail.

I think you should work here

A typical day of working at Trader Joe's consists of completing various tasks in every section of the store from cash handling on registers to stocking the shelves. I learned the benefits of being a well-rounded crew member, I was trained to learn every section in the store, knowledge of the products and history/moral and ethical codes of the company. The work culture is laid back and friendly, management is very understanding of crews' circumstances and are willing to accommodate. The hardest part of the job was unloading the trucks. The most enjoyable part of the job for me was the crew food tastings which allowed us to explore new products and talk about these products with the customer.

Very political

Not a good place to work as you are jugged the moment you start and if your on the wrong side of the isle then are outed and not welcomed at all. If you want a chill place to work and not have to look over your shoulder all the time then look else ware

Amazing place to work

Great work environment. Coworkers are very nice and fun to work with. Mates are fair and create a great work environment. Trader Joe's is an amazing place to work.

Great place, lovely coworkers

I loved who i worked with! The job is pretty easy and straightforward and the management what’s you to advocate for yourself if you don’t like doing a certain section. They were super accommodating with me ubering and taking mental health days.

Not a bad job, but NYC stores are insane

Really not a bad job at all, decent pay and benefits. If I lived anywhere but NYC I would’ve probably stayed on and tried to become a manager, but the NYC stores are mobbed. It’s like retail Vietnam, especially 14th st, but even the much bigger downtown Brooklyn store is a nightmare.

Good enough grocery store job

Trader Joe's cares more about their brand as "a good place to work" than they actually care about making it so. Each individual store can be vastly different based on the Captain (General Manager). The scheduling can be flexible and there are opportunities for some advancement, but it can be very boring, monotonous work and much more physically demanding than you would expect. I walk about 5 miles per day and the bending, twisting, and lifting are no joke. Despite this fairly simple job, the store politics can be ridiculous. The best part is my coworkers; the best group of people I've ever worked with.

Pros

Nice coworkers, Store discount, Pto, 401k, Raises

Cons

Confusing and Contradictory Expectations, Tyrannical managment

good place with some good perks

A good work environment and nice people. Pay is ok, comparable to other jobs with similar description. The best part was the free product you would get while working there.

Fun workplace

The best job I’ve had in a while. I got lucky with my coworkers and managers. I’ve learned a lot of communication skills and get my exercise in. They’re very flexible with schedules

Hard work but rewarding job. Gucci of all grocery stores. Management is excellent, Crew leads the store. Very nice customer base. Great location, clean store.

Best possible for corporate America

Excellent place to work, supportive team, great pay with reliable raises of $0.75 every 6 mos. barring any kind of bad performance (almost everyone gets one). Great health insurance and standard accrual of ~7 days of PTO/year upon starting. Downsides are standard...some bureaucracy, work can be monotonous. On the whole though, really great.

The Good and Bad

The work was easy enough to get a hold of and if I needed help, it was welcome to ask. My co-workers were great. Management was so-so. Some Mates are more uptight than others and some don't feel like they seem to care at all and are quick to make negative assumptions. They are inflexible with shift hours- they seem to be firm on 8-hour workdays. Difficult to get a pay raise if only part-time.

Pros

Employee discount, Sunday premium, Co-workers

Cons

Strict pay raise assessment, mediocre management, passive-aggressive drama

Great place to work

Very physically demanding but the atmosphere definitely makes up for it. Like any customer service job, there are pros and cons but overall a very good company to work for.

Great atmosphere and enjoy the people

Work was relatively easy but in busy season you work longer hours. Hard to get the hours you need to during the slower months. Good culture and fun people to work with. Decent pay but largely when you can get the overtime.

Pros

Fun people and good products

Cons

Hard to get hour
