Okay place to work

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Okay place to work. Pay isn't great compared to the area and work can be unexciting yet overwhelming at times. If you work here, it's because you enjoy having good work life balance and that's really it.

Lynchburg location has good people. Corporate tends to screw things up.

Was at Flowserve Lynchburg for 4 years and really enjoyed learning and working with the local team. There were some typical office politics, but in general, the various departments worked well together to accomplish goals. However, when the pandemic hit, corporate really screwed everything up, laying off many people prematurely and not allowing local management to have control. Local management too often has their hands tied by corporate.

Excellent

Great place to work. Opportunity for advancement and career development. Nice clean safe work areas. Parts Manufacturing Center is centrally located in Houston. Great group of people working here.

Good employees at the production level. Wayyyy too many people in middle managment

There are plenty of excellent employees here, especially in operations and engineering. However, there are an inexplicably high number of people in middle management/director level roles with really vague job descriptions. Basically these people do almost nothing to solve actual problems in the company. Rather, they often create new special programs with arbitrary "quality" oriented intentions that cost millions of dollars to implement, and are often abandoned when these people move into another high paying position or job hop to another company.

Pros

opportunity for learning, good technical people

Cons

no clear value added from many high paying positions

Just okay - no clear sense of advancement

Just okay - no clear sense of advancement . Managers and team members were great to work with and want you to succeed. HR can be hard to deal with and never provide clear answers

Well paying jobs but poor culture

Generally most people are payed well for the work they do. The culture at this company is poor. There is very little sense of community, and people rarely spend time with each other outside of work. There are very few young people working here.

Pros

Pay

Cons

Sense of community

Good place to work

Overall solid place to work, advance career. Lower management is knowledgeable for the most part, upper management tends to focus too much on short term goals as opposed to long term. Depends too much on offsite engineering and programming, causing quality and efficiency standards to drop.

Pros

Good flexibility, treats employees fairly

Cons

Health benefits leave much to be desired, pay raises/bonuses have become almost non existent. Focus far too much on “numbers”

Heavily tied to the oil and gas industry

Flowserve was a good place to work at while the oil and gas industry was performing well. Once the price of oil started to fall, so did Flowserve profits and the lay-offs began.

Low stress

Jobs are pretty low stress and as long as you get your work done there isn't much expectation to always be on the clock. Obviously this comes and goes as deadlines pass.

Good company above the Director Level

Leadership above the Director level are well respected and very accommodating and approachable. If they only knew what happened at the Organizational level!!!! Some immediate managers are incompetent and make command decisions without consulting teams who actually do the work. Risk is not mitigated, but transferred to the teams who all are looking outside of Flowserve for more stable, less stressful positions.

Depends upon business unit

My experience may differ others. This is due to the very different product lines. If you are from a Houston branch there can be many opportunities for advancement. Otherwise you may find yourself stuck.

Pros

Large company, great benefits

Cons

limited upward mobility

Work Culture

Excellent place towork

Flowserve is a excellent place to work, there is an ample scope to demonstrate individual talent. Management & HR policyes is excellent and in line with Top American companies like Generalelectric Honey well Dell. One should have an element of luck to workin that environment

Mismanagement

Knee jerk reactions to almost any and all situations. Good ole boy network, you're either in or you go nowhere. All loyalty is on your part, non to you.

Pros

Paid the bills

Cons

No concern for employees, they're a means to an end

Good to get started then move

Good to start your career. you will get a load of experience not just in your area of expertise but other areas as well. Mainly because the operations are run very lean due to the nature of their business. they are also slow at hiring. I feel pay is below average. But not bad. pays benefits to hourly people as well which is a really good thing. pays bonus as well. has 6 sigma certification program. so do it and jump to next job.

Pros

secure job and loads of experience.

Cons

work load is immense. management lacks planning because they are overloaded as well
