A great learning experience
Insurance Service Representative (Former Employee) - Costa Mesa, CA - June 17, 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedI thought I would retire there. But after a few years I wasn't advancing like they made it seem would be so easy. You work hard to get into other departments and positions, but they will keep you where they want you. That works for a lot of people, but not for all. If you are looking to work here, get your P&C license first. They can't keep you from getting what you already have.
Pros
Casual Saturdays, great food options nearby, looks good on your resume, free membership
Cons
Micromanagement, stress, parking

Good company for upward growth
Insurance service representative (Former Employee) - Tustin, CA - September 18, 2023
A lot of people stay at AAA for many years and upward mobility is highly possible here. It's very sales driven if you're on the insurance side, but that's to be expected. Management can be iffy at times but as long as you know your job you'll be fine. A lot of good people at this company.

Toxic management and micro- managing, with no authority to do your job.
Claims Service Coordinator (Former Employee) - Costa Mesa, CA - August 17, 2023
They are always under- staffed , with no clerical support at all. The claim volume is high, and you are given no authority to get your job done. I do not recommend this company.
Pros
None
Cons
Work load, micro- managing.

Goals goals goals
Branch Member specialist (Former Employee) - Whittier - August 1, 2023
Doesn’t matter how good of a worker you are if you aren’t making your goals then all you get is write ups and disciplinary actions. If you meet your goals then you can do better. If you try to help get people in and out then you better mention the survey because if someone was waiting too long and they give you a bad survey then it’s your fault for not mentioning it was about you. Doesn’t matter how nice you were or how fast you got them out of there. It’s a numbers game and they fail to mention how big a deal referrals are to your job. If you’re not a sales person don’t work for this company. I’m a great worker but I’m not a sales person and if they had been honest about that, I would have never worked here.

HR nightmare and overworked
Insurance Agent (Current Employee) - Los Angeles, CA - August 1, 2023
Pump you in like cattle and completely degrade the staff. Totally unprofessional. Constantly shouting and cussing at employees on the floor over other employees trying to take calls. Customers think it’s rowdy. And it is completely embarrassing. Money is good. But it is a lot of work and a lot of customer service. So many goals on so many levels. NO work life balance. Run.

Stable but Poorly Managed
Claims Representative (Current Employee) - Valencia, CA - July 19, 2023
You think this company is different and "CARES", a message they repeat a lot. They are not and they don't. Managers without any experience, cross firing messages, siloed groups and no consistent protocols make life here very difficult.

High Turnover Rate for a Reason
Claims Representative (Current Employee) - Los Angeles County, CA - July 13, 2023
I am a claims adjuster for AAA and have been with the company about 2 years now. Since I have been with the company, I have seen several peers quit due to the workload, some of which quit on the spot out of rage. When you are hired, they really sell the company as easy to advance in. They highly encourage you to work different disciplines within the company and do a wonderful job at selling the fact that they "have never laid anyone off". They cover a hotel for you to train and comp meals and it all really makes you feel like AAA is different from all those other corporations-surprise, its not. Claims is a high pressure, mentally exhausting position. People yell at you and degrade you often. You are expected to score 9 or 10 out of 10 on your customer service surveys. Anything below a 9 is a 0. And in order to meet goal your overall score must be at least 86%. You must meet this goal (in addition to other goals such as referring AAA shops, DOI compliance, and work productivity) while handling well over 90 claims. They will increase the work load on you randomly and you are expected not to complain. Additionally, there is such a high turnover rate that when an adjuster quits, each unit takes turns distributing that person's claims. So lately we've been getting 2-3 additional claims every other week which does not count toward our assigned claims count. They have asked almost every employee who was work from home to return to the office effective immediately with little explanation other than the CEO says so. Lately, upper management is becoming more strict in reprimanding -
Pros
Great Pay, Flexible Vacation Requests
Cons
Unreasonable Workload, High Pressure, Horribly Unforgiving Upper Management

Great. Keep your stats up and it's smooth sailing.
CSR - Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) - Long Beach, CA - June 15, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Work from Home, OT available (seasonally), people are nice, opportunities for advancement. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Angry members and system issues What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Work from Home. It's cozy and everyone is sooooo kind. The culture is fine. People are pleasant. After training, they do throw you into any other learning and it's sink or swim. Of course they will assist with answering questions but you are on your own with the calls. They will listen in and assist if needed/asked to. What is a typical day like for you at the company? I work overnight. Sometimes it's busy but a lot of times the call volume is low. Some stressful calls due to the hour. People are stressed out in the middle of the night, in the middle of no where.

Great workplace

Great management, great coworkers. Everyone is very helpful and there are very few that look out for only themselves. Good pay and benefits to go along with great workplace atmosphere.

High Expectations and Micromanaging
Branch Manager (Current Employee) - San Diego, CA - June 12, 2023
There are so many goals, reports and tasks. Branches are often times understaffed and management has to work long hours with extra tasks and work given by upper management. Regional management at the branch level will make or break the experience and sadly as of now it seems to be too much. Losses are met with extra work and a feeling of being punished no matter how hard you try.
Pros
Job security, pension, medical
Cons
Stressful environment

Okay for the money
ERS Receive Agent (Former Employee) - Burbank, CA - May 6, 2023
Cool job. Most managers are nice. You do not have to take whatever language people are using to talk to you and will not get in trouble for informing them. Movement within the company is easy as long as your points are low to non existent.

Very micromanage
Branch specialist II (Former Employee) - West Covina, CA - May 3, 2023
They are very micromanage and always having to have cross sell like 10 cross sell goals monthly. They discriminate if you have a health condition. Not a place I would recommend to work.

Look any other place
Programmer Analyst (Current Employee) - Costa Mesa, CA - May 1, 2023
The place is stuck in 1970 and would prefer women in the kitchen having babies. It is one of the worst places to work and would never recommend expecting maybe your enemy.

Good Beefits
Life Insurance Agent (Former Employee) - Los Angeles, CA - April 16, 2023
AAA is a okay place to work and the benefits, including a a pension. The technology for the Life agent is very outdated and the company does not keep up with current trends.

Good but Old School
Staff (Former Employee) - Costa Mesa, CA - April 3, 2023
My time here in the early 2010’s was good and I learned a lot about the company. Most in So Cal think it’s just So Cal based, but there are so many other clubs that they control across the nation. In my position then, I got to see a lot and it kept things interesting. What got to me was the old school management style and the need to micro manage everyone’s daily start and end times. Hope that stopped.

Upsetting experience
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Costa Mesa, CA - March 26, 2023
Immediately after completing my training for auto insurance they changed all of the phone queues to the roadside department. I was fine with helping but was not given the software to assist the member accurately. I was still responsibile for meeting refferals of products and strict time restrictions despite having to learn a new skill by myself. When I brought up that I wasn't trained and was struggling with the calls my boss said "we are a roadside company first". During my time there I was constantly yelled at by the members; when I told a member "you need to stop yelling at me" I was given a lecture about how I shouldn't use the word "you" by my boss. Management made me cry several times. The amount of work that is expected from employees is inhumane and upsetting.
Pros
Provided adaquate training
Cons
Had to be on the phones for 93% of day, only 2 minutes and 20 seconds between calls

Not for everyone
Policy Service Representative (Former Employee) - 2601 s Figueroa st - March 21, 2023
A good company all in all but the metrics and goals are unrealistic, customer service is basically a sales position as well because your are written up if you do not meet monthly goals on referring products to existing customers, like credit cards and such, and succeeding in those areas are the only way to move departments

Bad management leads to high turnover
Licensed Auto/ Home Insurance Agent (Former Employee) - Costa Mesa, CA - March 9, 2023
Only come to work for AAA if you want to work 12 hour days to make $75k. Bad management and communication. Company has high turnover because they dont care about there sales agents. I was told to my face I'd you dont do what you are told we will make you quit because we have over 800 resumes waiting to take your spot.
Pros
Pizza parties and snack room for selling 3 autos
Cons
No breaks, long hours, bad management, cant leave until manager agrees you have done your job for the day.

The worst job I have ever had
PMG Insurance Specialist Sr (Current Employee) - Costa Mesa, CA - January 20, 2023
I have worked for AAA for 8 years and I can honestly say that this is the worst job I have ever had. There is so much politics in all aspects of the job, I often wonder what's the point to continuing with such a seriously dysfunctional company. They promote inexperienced reps to supervisory positions that have only been on the job for literally a couple of months. They have these unrealistic referral goals that need to be met month after month, and the work/life balance is horrible. We are supposed to get minimum of 2 weeks a year vacation, but God forbid we get sick more than the 5 days allotted per year, AAA will start taking the time from your accrued vacation bank. There reasoning is that this is in line with most other companies. In my years working for other companies, I have never had one take your vacation time if you had no available sick time. There systems and processes are antiquated and for it being 2023 we shouldn't have to pull up a PDF file and attach it to an email to send them proof of insurance or a declaration page. It should be a click of a button on our platform that we use to manage a policy and the system should send it automatically.
Pros
the pay is pretty good.
Cons
inexperienced supervisors and work/life balance

Employee reviews indicate that nothing has changed since 2005. Old school, antiquated leadership style (why I left), IT sorely out of date.
ERS Supervisor (Former Employee) - Long Beach, CA - December 30, 2022
Read the employee reviews. Most are stating the truth about ERS as they pertain specifically to ERS and overall corporate culture. Leadership in most areas is greatly lacking. I was full of hope and enthusiasm when begain. Within 6 months it was gone.
Pros
Initial training was pretty good.
Cons
High pressure call center, I'm glad I left quickly & didn't waste my time.
