Travel Agent

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
My days Were spent answering phones, greeting walk-ins, preparing directions, giving out AAA travel books, and then trying to prepare trips and reserve hotel rooms. Management was not good. Travel manager talked about employees from one to another, at times rude, didn't treat everyone equally. I loved though being an agent. My specialty was preparing New York City trips. I learned Alot about many places and loved working with people. Had management been more supportive and better, I would not have ever left. I loved my job. I would go back. The manager quit 21/2 months after I left.

Pros

Every other Saturday off

Cons

Bad management

Great environment and room to grow

They take care of their employees. It is easy to find lots of opportunities to grow within the field and they tended to always keep good people on the payroll.

Great training

Great training programs and interesting day to days. Management was always easy to talk to and reach and their is some great commissions available if you’re consistent

An okay work place

This is an okay job at first. I worked from home in the call center taking roadside assistance calls. After a while it was overwhelming with the amount of calls we received. SOME managers were okay with helping us get the call volume down. There was a lot of micromanaging. They were always changing the policy in PTO and certain break rules. There was always bickering in the teams chat amongst different departments. And the Carolinas have some of the rudest entitled customers. Lots of underlying racist undertones. Managers never addressed those concerns. Overall it was an okay job.

Pros

Bonuses

Cons

Short breaks, micromanagement

I’m just here because I can’t find anything else right now.

Management are bullies and corporate does not care. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Cliques. Toxic management. Rude customers. What is a typical day like for you at the company? It’s busy doing the job of 10 other people but never actually my own.

Used to be fun

Life has been driven out. Not a fun place to work. Lots of micromanagement and people of power feel the need to be rude just because they can. The company comes up with corny things they think employees would like instead of asking.

Some Bald guy became COO- downhill she goes!

it was crazy whack at best. work was like being bitten by a lion while trying to chase the dreams one should be able to desire without being be belittled and made to feel like you are working in north korea.

Cons

Dumpster Fire

Worst Job ever, micromanagement is off the chain insanity. It is not physically possible to do what they ask of you doing the job of 4 different roles in one low paid job. Management is a mess. RUN

I was employed with the establishment for over 20 years and the last 3…One big circus..overworked short of help! Smh.. 0 stars

They have no sympathy for their members and definitely do not treat workers fairly. No seniority what so ever! You are left in a position to tell lies turn down service and leaving members stranded for hours and sometimes days

Stressful, unbalanced

I can't think of many positives. Low compensation. Coworkers are quiting left and right, leaving work loads on the laps of others. Work load doubles but compensation doesn't. There are too many others hiring right now. Save yourself from this awful company

Cons

Low pay, high stress, short staff, constant pressure regarding memberships & selling the credit card, terrible communication...on and on

If I could give them 0 I would

Management horrible. No structure. Minimal training. Managers don’t know any insurance information , they don’t want to help you, they don’t want to help the customer, they don’t care. Training is for a week then they try to coach you on things they never trained you on. They want you to sell a billing things. Peers are rude, don’t want to help, and managers let them get away with it. HR is also trash. They act like they don’t know how to help you. The manager of the managers don’t know anything either. Horrible horrible experience. When I quit they sent me a label to send their equipment back no box or anything. They are just so careless it’s sad. They even make customers pay additional money for mistake the reps and managers commit. Idk how they are even in business.

Decent pay….OVERWORKED…management the worst.

Micromanaged to the max. Never a word of a job well done, always about your faults. No consistency in how things should be done. Management, no support or standing behind employees. VERY high turnover! Applicant beware.

Pros

Profit payout .

Cons

Poor management… overworked, lack of employee support.

Great benefits but very long hours!

Great benefits but the pay is a challenge unless you’re a manager or master technician. The master technicians are worshipped and managers are disposable. I loved working here until they merged with ACG. ACG doesn’t care about the car repair side. AAA ACG only cares about making all of its members insurance customers. The Car Care side will upsell repairs so they can hit their numbers to make a small bonus. I would only use AAA for Travel, Roadside Assistance and Car Buying. You have been warned.

Pros

Benefits

Cons

Integrity, mediocre pay and work life balance

Cons

High Volume Ride!

I absolutely love AAA. How often do you feel great about going to work? I love my company, the internal staff and even the higher ups are really cool! They also promote from within so chances are, its always someone familiar in charge! Come see for yourself!

Pros

Excellent Benefits

Cons

10.5 hour days Could be shorter, for more family time!

You are micromanaged to death

There are cameras in the trucks watching you at all times. You get written up for anything you can think off. You will find it hard to make friends because no one stays. Most people train there for a couple of months then go work for contractors.

Pros

Hourly pay unlike contractors for this type of work

Cons

Too many to list

Roadside assistance

HORRIBLE place to work at. Doesn’t care about family or home life. They will work you until you pass out and wouldn’t even care. Work will not be fairly compensated or help will be provided.

Poor Leadership and Company Support

Covid obviously hit travel companies hard, but the changes AAA has made recently to recover don't make sense and are forcing agents out the door. People who have been in the industry with the company for 15+ years are walking because of unrealistic goals that have nothing to do with travel. The commission is crippled until you reach the top of the career path which can take 2-3 years. The pay is decent for an entry-level job, but it takes dedication to get to the point that you're making anything liveable. The upside is you are selling a product that people love (when everything works out right) and most of the customers and co-workers are great people. Being a travel agent can be very rewarding, especially when you establish a good clientele base, and the knowledge you gain is incredible, but a poor work environment can spoil the good parts pretty quickly.

Pros

Regular day shift schedule, Hour lunches, Awesome Co-Workers, Paid Holidays

Cons

Low commission, slow advancement, lack of strong leadership, unrealistic goals

This job is mentally exhausting helpless supervisors and co-workers and lack of communication

When I first started it was exciting, after my 90 days that’s when I realized this isn’t what I signed up for. When you have an minor issue it takes them forever to follow up or fix an issue. Supervisors have a list of unrealistic goals to meet each month, but don’t take into consideration the stress and type of members call receivers deal with. Very inconsiderate when it comes to family or unexpected emergencies. They’re quick to ask you to work over your assigned shift but when you need a day off or an early release it’s no flexibility I would not recommend this job to anyone. Not worth the stress and poor pay

Pros

Pto

Cons

Short lunch breaks long period of seating

Reactive Company with Good Benefits

Working in the travel side of the organization I have been amazed that AAA has been able to survive the pandemic. The benefits and PTO are excellent and the ability to move around to different AAAs is doable but the company is dying a slow death. Very reactive to situations; work flexibility is not a priority here and everything from their app to many systems are technologically inadequate. Felt like a small family until AAA Carolinas was merged into the conglomerate Auto Club Group. More of a protected feeling now but very impersonal and even more glaringly antiquated in their business model. You also do not work here for the pay.

Pros

Stable, Well-Known, Decent Benefits

Cons

Pay, Lack of Flexibility, Too much micromanagement

Great place to work depending on where you are

You will learn a lot working in the travel department. Different areas are better than others depending on the management. The region I am in has a very high turn over for managers due to micromanaging by the regional manager. The Red region is known for being difficult in travel by others in different regions and even others in different departments. You are expected of more than others, treated unfairly, threatened, and poorly compensated. I am very grateful to have had this opportunity but hope to leave the company soon.

Pros

Generous amount of PTO, job security, access to great training/support department, and fantastic IT department

Cons

Job security for employees who bring down moral and should be fired, recent merger with ACG, expensive health benefits
