Job Description: Document Controller in an Interior Design Company Role Overview

A Document Controller in an interior design company is responsible for managing all documentation related to projects, ensuring that all documents are accurately maintained, organized, and easily accessible to the project team. This role is crucial for ensuring effective communication, compliance, and quality control within the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Document Management:
  • Develop and maintain an organized filing system for both digital and hard copy documents.
  • Ensure all project documents are current, accurate, and appropriately stored.
  • Handle the distribution of documents to relevant parties and ensure receipt and acknowledgement.
  • Document Control:
  • Manage the revision and approval process for documents.
  • Track and manage changes to project documents, ensuring version control.
  • Ensure that all documentation complies with company standards and industry regulations.
  • Project Coordination:
  • Work closely with project managers, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure that documentation requirements are met.
  • Facilitate communication between different departments by ensuring that everyone has access to the necessary documents.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance:
  • Ensure that all documents adhere to the company’s quality standards.
  • Conduct regular audits of document control processes and practices to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
  • Training and Support:
  • Provide training to staff on document control processes and systems.
  • Support project teams by providing access to necessary documentation and assisting with document-related queries.


  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Management, or a related field. A background in Interior Design or Architecture is a plus.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in document control, preferably within the interior design, architecture, or construction industries.
  • Experience with document management systems (DMS) and software, such as SharePoint, Aconex, or similar tools.
  • Skills:
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific documentation standards and practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Certifications:
  • Certifications in document control or project management (e.g., Certified Document Controller, PMP) are advantageous but not mandatory.
