Main Purpose

he In-House School Photographer is responsible for capturing high quality photographic and visual content that reflects the ethos, culture and daily life of RLS School. The role supports whole school communications, documentation and archival needs by providing consistent, professional visual coverage of academic life, events and key initiatives. This ensures a strong, coherent visual identity across internal and external platforms and supports the work of senior leaders, staff and the wider school community.

Responsibilities

Plan, capture, edit and manage high‑quality photographic content of school life, including academic activities, academic events, ceremonies, trips and performances with a focus on student digital profiles (Toddle) to support effective parent communication, while ensuring timely delivery aligned with deadlines and communication needs.
Provide visual coverage of whole-school and SLT events, ensuring timely delivery of images in line with deadlines and communication needs, while supporting the documentation of learning.
Manage, organise and maintain the school’s digital photo archive, ensuring clear labelling, version control, accessibility and compliance with data protection and consent protocols.
Work closely with the academic and administrative teams to understand upcoming priorities, events and communication requirements in line with the academic calendar.
Collaborate with the leadership teams to support newsletter content, reports and presentations
Ensure consistency in visual style and quality across all school photography, aligned with the RLS brand and values.
Provide photography support for official academic documentation, inspection evidence and accreditation requirements where required.
Maintain photography equipment, ensuring it is well cared for, functional and mission ready.
Ensure all photography activities are carried out with professionalism, discretion and sensitivity, particularly when working with students and families.

Essential Qualities

Proven experience as a photographer, preferably within an educational, corporate, or organisational setting
Experience working in a school environment is desirable as well as a strong understanding of safeguarding
Strong portfolio demonstrating a range of photography, including events and portrait work

Maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour and observe proper boundaries appropriate to their professional position
Treat all colleagues and stakeholders with dignity, building relationships rooted in tolerance and respect for the rights and beliefs of others
Demonstrate professionalism through creativity, reliability and attention to detail, delivering high-quality images on time while maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding standards. Works collaboratively with staff and communicates effectively.
Contributes to wider school life by documenting learning, events and student achievements, supporting student digital profiles (e.g., Toddle) to enhance parent communication and providing visual content for school publications and community engagement.
High level of professionalism, discretion and understanding of confidentiality
Strong photography skills with excellent attention to detail and composition
