Job Overview:

The Principal Medical Specialist interprets internal or external business issues and recommends best practices. They will be tasked with solving complex medical-related problems and work independently with minimal guidance. They may be responsible for leading functional teams or projects and are regarded as a subject matter expert in the Medical field. As such, they must have in-depth expertise in medical and broad knowledge of the medical discipline within the Health Safety Environment Security function.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Discuss injury and incidents with key personnel
  • Follow up on medivac and medical referral cases and provide medical updates to key personnel
  • Coordinate with key personnel Director of Health and Industrial Medicine regarding the final disposition of medical cases referred onshore pertaining to fitness to return to work and further medical treatment or recuperation
  • Review medical reports from medical officers and advise recommendations to the concerned department
  • Review pre-employment medical reports of candidates and decide if they are fit to work
  • Ensure the availability of medical equipment and supplies
  • Prepare and review medical supplies/requisition
  • Coordinate sampling for water analysis and hygiene and sanitation inspections
  • Ensure the availability of medical staff as per the required staffing plan
  • Coordinate with the HR Dept regarding mobilizations of medical officers
  • Ensure that the training requirements for medical officers are up to date
  • Coordinate with key personnel on medivac procedures
  • Provide advice and guidance to medical officers
  • Supervise and guide medical officers, ambulance drivers & administrators on clinic/medical matters
  • Coordinate and discuss with key personnel concerning medical and HSES issues
  • Provide medical guidance to McDermott employees
  • Keep integrity and confidentiality of medical reports & its records keeping and administrative report
  • Support with case management
  • Ensure that medical policies, including employees’ benefits, are implemented

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medicine/ Doctor of Medicine
  • Have a Valid Certification as a Medical Practitioner
  • Competence in managing medical emergency response, resuscitation, and stabilization of critically ill or injured (trauma) patients, employing Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) medical protocols
  • Have a valid Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and occupational health courses certification
  • At least 6+ years of experience as a Medical Practitioner
  • Good managerial skills, supervision, and experience in healthcare management
  • Good oral and written communication
  • Goon interpersonal and patient skills
  • Good knowledge of Industrial Medicine
