Job Overview

The Landscape Sketch Artist produces high-quality hand sketches and digital illustrations — including concept sketches, perspective drawings, and presentation plans — working closely with the Senior Landscape Designer to communicate design intent to clients and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

1. Produce high-quality hand-drawn and digital landscape illustrations

● Create freehand concept sketches, perspective drawings, and illustrative plans at a professional standard as the primary and daily deliverable of the role.

● Develop digitally illustrated visuals using industry-standard platforms alongside hand-drawn techniques, ensuring both skills are applied at the highest level.

2. Translate design concepts into compelling visual narratives

● Interpret design briefs and technical drawings from the landscape and architecture team and transform them into clear, visually impactful presentation graphics.

● Develop mood boards, design storyboards, and concept visual sequences that communicate spatial experience and design intent to clients and stakeholders.

3. Develop presentation plans, sections, elevations, and details

● Produce fully resolved, presentation-quality landscape plans, cross-sections, elevations, and annotated detail drawings for client submissions and design reviews.

● Ensure all drawings are graphically accurate, aesthetically consistent, and aligned with the current stage of design intent.

4. Maintain and continuously develop a professional portfolio

● Curate and update a substantial portfolio of landscape presentation plans, sketch perspectives, and illustrative drawings demonstrating full technical and artistic range.

● Ensure the portfolio reflects the breadth of landscape project types handled and the consistent quality expected of the role.

5. Apply knowledge of planting design and hardscape finishes

● Ensure plant species, planting compositions, ground coverage, and landscape materials are accurately and credibly represented in all illustrations and visuals.

● Cross-reference design drawings and landscape specifications when producing annotated plans, planting diagrams, and material palette boards.

6. Produce technical annotated plans and graphic overlays

● Develop annotated landscape plans, functional diagram overlays, design intent graphics, and area schedule diagrams to support full documentation packages.

● Ensure technical accuracy and graphic clarity in all annotated and diagrammatic drawings produced for internal and external audiences.

7. Develop and uphold visual standards and presentation templates

● Establish and maintain graphic standards, drawing frame conventions, and presentation templates for consistent use across the landscape design team.

● Ensure all team members follow agreed visual output standards and that project presentations reflect a unified and professional graphic identity.

8. Other Tasks and Accountabilities

● Perform additional tasks relevant to the role / area of expertise as requested by management to achieve the objectives and commitments of the department.

● Act in full compliance with all relevant health, safety, quality and environmental Integrated Management System to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality products/services and a responsible environmental attitude.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or any related field.

10+ years of experience with hand sketching and digital illustration as demonstrated primary skills.

● Strong understanding of landscape presentation standards, drawing hierarchy, and graphic conventions

● Working knowledge of planting design principles and hardscape materials and finishes
