Role Purpose

We are looking for a skilled and production-minded Backend Developer to design, build, integrate, and continuously improve the server-side capabilities that power LumiCore's AI-driven products. You will be the engineering foundation on which our AI Agents, digital workflows, and enterprise integrations run — translating approved product specifications into secure, reliable, and scalable backend services that operate in production, not just in development.

This is not a prototype role. The standard here is: backend services that run reliably in production, integrate cleanly with AI and frontend systems, protect data integrity, and form a maintainable foundation for commercially viable products.

Key Responsibilities

Backend Software Development

• Design, develop, and maintain production-grade backend components including application services, business-logic layers, APIs, microservices, background processing, authentication/authorization services, and integration services
• Translate approved Product Specifications into implementable backend functionality; identify ambiguities or constraints early and escalate to the appropriate technical authority

API & Integration Engineering

• Build, test, document, and maintain APIs that enable applications, AI capabilities, and external systems to communicate reliably and securely — with proper authentication, validation, versioning, error handling, and rate controls
• Develop and maintain integrations between LumiCore products and approved enterprise systems including ERP, CRM, HR platforms, cloud services, messaging platforms, payment systems, and third-party APIs

AI Backend Enablement

• Build the backend services through which LumiCore's AI Agents and LLM-powered capabilities interact with products, data, and enterprise systems — including Agent tool APIs, model-service integrations, session/context management, async processing, and AI usage/cost tracking
• Collaborate closely with AI Engineers: you own the application and systems foundation; they own the AI behaviour and reasoning

Data & Persistence Engineering

• Develop and maintain backend data layers including schemas, queries, transactions, caching, migrations, and data-access controls — ensuring data integrity and compliance with approved data architecture

Security & Access Control

• Implement approved application security controls across authentication, authorization, role-based access, input validation, API security, credential handling, and protection against common vulnerabilities

Testing, Deployment & Production

• Develop and execute unit, integration, API, regression, and performance tests; ensure components satisfy technical acceptance criteria before release
• Prepare services for controlled deployment — handling versioning, environment compatibility, observability, rollback readiness, and CI/CD collaboration with DevOps/Cloud engineering
• Monitor production performance; investigate and resolve backend defects, integration failures, API errors, and performance degradation

Scalability, Reuse & Continuous Improvement

• Engineer for scalability — optimizing response time, throughput, concurrency, and resource consumption without unnecessary complexity
• Build reusable services, API patterns, integration connectors, and common components that reduce duplicated development across LumiCore's product portfolio
• Continuously identify and recommend improvements to architecture, code quality, reliability, security, and development productivity

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent — demonstrated engineering capability carries significant weight alongside formal qualifications
• Core Technical Skills: Strong practical knowledge of server-side development, REST/API engineering, relational and/or non-relational databases, authentication and authorization, application security, background/async processing, system integration, caching, error handling, automated testing, version control, and production troubleshooting
• AI Product Experience: Working understanding of how modern AI applications operate — including AI Agents, LLM service integration, RAG systems, tool calling, Human-AI workflows, and async AI workloads — sufficient to engineer reliable backend support for these capabilities
• Production Standard: Demonstrated ability to deliver production backend applications, APIs, enterprise integrations, and cloud/backend services — not just prototype-level code
• Cloud & DevOps Awareness: Familiarity with modern cloud environments, containerization, and deployment fundamentals is desirable
• Engineering Judgment: Ability to make sound decisions on when to reuse versus build, how to balance performance against complexity, when to escalate architectural decisions, and when software is not ready for release — this judgment matters as much as coding speed

A practical coding and system-design assessment will form part of our recruitment process.
