Job Summary

The Instrument Technician is responsible for installing, inspecting, calibrating, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining industrial instrumentation and control systems to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant equipment. The role includes preventive and corrective maintenance of field instruments, analyzers, sensors, transmitters, control valves, PLC I/O, and related control systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, calibrate, test, maintain, and repair field instruments and control equipment.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on pressure, temperature, level, flow, and analytical instruments.
• Troubleshoot faults in instrumentation, control systems, and associated electrical circuits.
• Inspect, calibrate, and maintain transmitters, sensors, gauges, switches, and control valves.
• Assist in diagnosing and resolving PLC, DCS, and SCADA-related instrumentation issues.
• Carry out loop checking, commissioning, and functional testing of instruments during maintenance activities and new installations.
• Read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and instrument datasheets.
• Maintain calibration records, maintenance reports, and equipment history.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company procedures, manufacturer recommendations, and applicable safety standards.
• Coordinate with production and maintenance teams to minimize equipment downtime.
• Identify defective components and recommend repair or replacement.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of tools, testing equipment, and spare parts.
• Participate in shutdowns, breakdown maintenance, and emergency repairs as required.
• Follow all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Management.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Technical Certificate in Instrumentation, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Additional certification in instrumentation or industrial automation is an advantage.

Experience

• Minimum 3–5 years of experience as an Instrument Technician in a manufacturing, smelting, mining, or heavy industrial environment.
• Experience with PLC, DCS, industrial automation, and process instrumentation is preferred.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of industrial instrumentation and control systems.
• Ability to calibrate and troubleshoot various field instruments.
• Familiarity with PLCs, DCS, SCADA systems, and control valves.
• Ability to read technical drawings, electrical schematics, and P&IDs.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and documentation skills.
• Basic computer proficiency for maintenance reporting and record keeping.
