Senior Medical Coder

Job Summary

Al Zaabi Group is seeking an experienced Senior Medical Coder to manage accurate medical coding, claims review, documentation validation, and insurance-related coding activities across its healthcare facilities.

The role requires strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and UAE healthcare insurance requirements, with a focus on coding accuracy, compliance, revenue optimization, and reduction of insurance claim rejections.

Key Responsibilities

• Review patient medical records and assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS codes based on clinical documentation.
• Ensure coding is accurate, complete, compliant, and aligned with DOH Abu Dhabi and applicable payer requirements.
• Review outpatient, procedure, diagnostic, and other healthcare claims before submission.
• Perform detailed coding audits to identify errors, missed charges, incorrect coding, under-coding, or documentation gaps.
• Work closely with doctors and clinical teams to clarify incomplete or insufficient documentation.
• Ensure proper linkage between diagnoses, procedures, investigations, and services rendered.
• Review rejected and denied claims to identify coding-related root causes and support timely correction and resubmission.
• Coordinate with the Insurance, Billing, Revenue Cycle, Finance, and Clinical teams to improve claim acceptance rates.
• Monitor coding-related denials and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
• Stay updated on changes in coding guidelines, payer policies, DOH requirements, and insurance regulations.
• Support the implementation and maintenance of standardized coding practices across healthcare facilities.
• Conduct periodic internal coding audits and prepare reports for management.
• Provide guidance and support to junior medical coders and other relevant team members.
• Assist in training clinical staff regarding documentation requirements that impact coding and reimbursement.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient medical and financial information.
• Ensure all coding activities comply with organizational policies and applicable UAE healthcare regulations.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree or relevant qualification in Healthcare, Medical Coding, Health Information Management, or a related field.
• Recognized Medical Coding Certification such as CPC, CCS, CCA, or equivalent is strongly preferred.
• Minimum 3–5 years of medical coding experience, preferably within hospitals, medical centres, day surgery centres, or healthcare groups in the UAE.
• Strong UAE healthcare insurance and claims experience.
• Good working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS coding systems.
• Knowledge of DOH Abu Dhabi regulations and payer requirements is highly preferred.
• Experience handling claim denials, coding audits, and resubmissions is an advantage.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Performance will be evaluated based on coding accuracy, claim acceptance rate, reduction in coding-related denials, turnaround time, audit compliance, documentation quality, timely claim correction, and contribution to revenue cycle efficiency.

Pay: AED3,140.24 - AED6,000.50 per month
