Job Summary

The Surf Cafe is looking for a passionate, hardworking, and enthusiastic Commis Chef to join our kitchen team. The ideal candidate will support the Chef de Partie in food preparation, maintain high standards of hygiene, and contribute to delivering exceptional food quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chef de Partie with food preparation and mise en place.
  • Prepare ingredients according to recipes and kitchen standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen workstations.
  • Receive, unpack, and properly store food deliveries.
  • Ensure all food items are stored safely to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage.
  • Report any damaged or malfunctioning kitchen equipment to the supervisor.
  • Follow food safety, hygiene, and HACCP standards at all times.
  • Assist with cleaning duties, including mopping spills to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Support the kitchen team during busy service periods.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Commis Chef or in a similar kitchen role is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen operations.
  • Understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and strong teamwork skills.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
