Job Description: Consultant Family Medicine
Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Healthcare Setting: Outpatient Clinics / Multi-specialty Hospital / Primary Care Centers
Reports To: Chief Medical Officer (CMO) / Medical Director
Licensing Authority: Dubai Health Authority (DHA)
Job Purpose
The Consultant Family Medicine provides comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered primary healthcare services to individuals and families across all age groups, genders, and disease entities. This role focuses heavily on preventive medicine, early disease detection, lifestyle modification, and the evidence-based management of acute and chronic conditions within an integrated, multidisciplinary healthcare system.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Excellence & Patient Care
- Deliver comprehensive primary care consultations, detailed clinical assessments, and physical examinations for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patient populations.
- Diagnose and manage a wide spectrum of acute illnesses, minor injuries, and complex, multi-system chronic conditions (e.g., Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, asthma, and metabolic disorders) in accordance with local and international evidence-based guidelines.
- Formulate, implement, and monitor individualized, long-term patient care and treatment plans, ensuring robust follow-up and continuity of care.
- Perform minor outpatient procedures appropriate to the scope of family medicine (e.g., joint injections, minor wound care, skin biopsies, and basic cryotherapy).
2. Preventative Health & Wellness
- Design and execute preventive healthcare strategies, including routine health screenings, age-appropriate immunizations, cancer screenings, and early wellness interventions.
- Provide dedicated lifestyle counseling on nutrition, weight management, smoking cessation, stress reduction, and physical activity to optimize patient longevity and metabolic health.
3. Care Coordination & Collaboration
- Act as the primary patient advocate, coordinating seamless referrals to tertiary specialists, diagnostic services, and allied health professionals when medically indicated.
- Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary clinical team (including nurses, specialists, and pharmacists) to deliver integrated, high-quality healthcare.
4. Clinical Governance & Administration
- Maintain flawless electronic medical records (EMR) and clinical documentation in strict compliance with DHA regulations, Joint Commission International (JCI) standards, and institutional policies.
- Participate actively in clinical governance, peer reviews, quality improvement initiatives, and patient safety audits.
- Contribute to internal continuing medical education (CME) programs and stay current with advancements in primary care medicine.
Requirements & Qualifications
Licensing & Education
- Basic Medical Degree: MBBS or equivalent from a recognized university listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
- Specialty Qualification: Completion of formal higher professional training and Board Certification/Specialty Certificate in Family Medicine. Recognized Tier 1 or Tier 2 qualifications include:
- USA: American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM)
- UK: Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) / MRCGP
- Canada: Fellowship of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP)
- Australia/NZ: Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP)
- Arab Board / Local Equivalents: Arab Board Specialization or equivalent recognized by the DHA PQR (Professionals Qualification Requirements).
- DHA License: Must hold an active DHA Consultant License or a valid DHA Eligibility Letter as a Consultant in Family Medicine.
Experience
- Tier 1 Pathway: Minimum of 2 years of post-specialty continuous practice in a recognized multidisciplinary or hospital setting.
- Tier 2 Pathway: Minimum of 5 to 8 years of verified postgraduate clinical experience in the specialty.
- Proven track record working within culturally diverse patient environments.
